Category: Zone BBS Q&A
Hi all
Starting today, every time I go to log onto the zone, I get that message asking me if I want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely. I've gotten that message on other websites before but never here until today. Also, once I am on the site I hear the words landmark region (or something similar) every time I am in an edit field such as when entering words on the anagram game.
I don't know if something weird is going on with my computer or if there is a change on the zone. Anyone know anything about this?
I just got that when I logged in then; I thought it was odd.
The site has been undergoing updates and changes. Give it a few days.
The admin's have been working on it.
glad to see others who have encountered this issue. I'm sure we all figured it was just us. lol.
I noticed the landmark regions, but haven't got the message.
Bob
No message here, but the landmark regions are just another way to structure the page, in compliance with a standard called ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Access) used for Internet applications, and other Bulletin Board systems now.
I notice over on Ukulele Underground they use this also.
Well, I'm relieved it's not just me. The last thing I need is more computer problems. I wonder if when the admins made some recent changes they screwed something else up. LOL. That often happens in the tech world. You fix one problem only to cause another.
So far, it's an ongoing project. They've put quite a few hours worth of work in to the last 2 or 3 days. When they update one thing, something else breaks, so they have to go fix it, and then that breaks something else, so they have to go fix... There was a moment when I couldn't approve new account. There was a moment or two when people couldn't reply to board topics. There were times when posting to Graffiti would come back with a blank message. Blackjack and Word Mastermind had their issues as well. Let's give them a few more minutes to iron it all out, but feedback is definitely helpful to them.
I've been getting this pop up as well but it hasn't been on the zone itself. I've gotten it on google as well. I'm clueless as to how to stop it. I thought I fixed it yesterday but turns out I didn't. I've tried changing some things in internet options but nothing worked. I'm clueless as to what to do next and there are certain things I don't want to mess with like the security settings, but if that is it and someone knows exactly what is making the pop up continuously come up I'd really appreciate some help. It is really annoying.
Thanks, Anthony, for mentioning the problem posting to the boards. That did happen to me once, but for some reason I didn't associate it with the other `problems.
I understand the whole concept of fixing one problem only to cause another. That has happened before on this website, and I know some people who work in programming who say it is a problem in their jobs too.
What pop up Ryan?
It keeps saying something like notification requires response, press alt + n. Only secure content is displayed. Then when I press alt n the options shown are show all content, what are the risks, and a close button. I have done both show all content and hit the close button, and whenever the page refreshes on here, Google, and a couple other sites it pops up again.
That isn't a pop up, that is security on IE. You can just ignore it and it will go away. You don't have to respond.
You can also set IE to not show it.
It's because one of the ads displayed on the main page isn't delivered over a secure connection, while now the entire Zone BBS site is delivered securely. You can ignore it unless you really miss the ad.
Are you saying there is a way to ignore it permanently? Every time I come on here I am given a choice of choosing yes or no, but there is no ignore choice, and it occurs again every time I come back to the zone.
So how do I set it in my security settings? It still hasn't gone away and there's no check box I can check to tell it not to come up again. It is still coming up on here, Google and goodreeds.com
Press alt n to go to the info bar, find the no button that you will find is a button menu. Down arrow or use space to open it and find yes or no is a sub menu and one of those items will be don't ask again.
Enter on Don't ask again and miracle of miracle, you shan't be asked again. lol
I just tried this, and nothing happens when I press alt n. I tried it when logging onto the zone, I tried it when on another website, and I even went into the control panel to look at security settings. Alt n isn't doing anything no matter where I am.
I'll look at tell you, but here is why you don't always get the dialogue. If you wait to long it goes away. That would depend on your version of Jaws, because some delay it longer.
If you simply ignore it, mentally it will go away. You don't have to make that choice unless you care to see the add Chris N talks about. If you don't care, just forget it.
It is a security measure to keep you from possibly clicking on adds that might lead you to a server that will give you a bug. Kind of like a governor.
Many sites have unsecured content on them, so when you say yes, you want to see it, you agree you will take the risk. If you say no you don't, you never see them, and if you ignore it IE decides you won't see them.
There is a setting in i.e. options under security settings, but I don't know exactly where it is. It also depends on the version of i.e. you are using. But, it's there somewhere.
Bob
I couldn't find it. I'm using 11. You can turn of smart screen filter, but that doesn't change the security warning. I just ignore it, and it goes away.
I've been getting this message too, and although it struck me as odd at first, I don't see it as a problem or a broken issue with the Zone. To chris and JJ, thanks for doing the work. Much appreciated!
Alt N is a Windows 7 thing, Becky. Not sure which version you're using, if you said which one, I missed it. As I said, I'm getting this message too. It's slightly annoying, but on certain sites, I'm glad to have it, so I keep it on and just don't worry about it.
It's one of those things where you can select, warn or ignore.
Bob
Okay if you must. I did the looking. Lol
To get to tools for us I press Alt T.
Internet options, arrow up once.
Security tab, I control tab over once.
Tab down to get to custom level.
Then I arrow down to locate the settings.
Tab down to okay, and I am asked if I’m sure I want to change this. I agree.
You will arrow through lots of settings. If you mess up, you can always set IE back to defaults and start over.
I copied this info, so here you go.
It works, but remember, it is there as a governor, so do as you will.
To get to the In order to permanently disable this message you need click on the Tools menu (this may be hidden by default, if so simply press the 'Alt' key on your keyboard and the menu bar should appear).
In the Tools menu click 'Internet Options', then go to the security tab and click the 'Custom level…' button.
In the 'Miscellaneous' section change "Display mixed content" to Enable, and click 'OK'.
I forgot to say, you will find lots of settings in ther, so if you understand others you don't like, you can change these as well. It is a matter of checking as you arrow down.
Thanks Wayne. I don't even get this warning for most websites I visit, so I'm not going to make those changes. I'll just put up with it when it does happen such as here on the zone. But thanks for all the work.
I personally will leave mine as is. I just changed it to see if it works. The warning goes away if you just ignore it, so no big deal.
Well,, how long do you have to ignore it? When I want to log onto the zone, I don't feel like sitting around for 10 minutes waiting for the question to go away. I have to choose either yes or no. I have waited for a minute or two, and it does not go away.
Thanks Wayne. It was driving me bat shit crazy... guess you guys have more tolerance than I do. Lol
You just continue doing what you are doing. Read the page or whatever, refresh and continue as if you didn't hear it.
Frankly, years ago, before I turned it off, it drove me crazy.
That's why I am the way I am today.
